The Jesusita Fire was started May 5, 2009 at 1:45 pm. 8,733 acres burned, 80 homes were destroyed, 15 homes were damaged; 79 outbuildings were destroyed, 2 outbuildings were damaged; and 1 commercial property was destroyed at a total cost of $20 million to contain. Presented here is a selection of photographs over four days detailing the event.

A helicopter comes in for a landing at Santa Barbara Junior High School. The incredible wash from its blades would lift ash off the ground, shake the needles from trees, and deafen those around it.

Crews worked around the clock refueling helicopters with water every 8 minutes. Pilots used night-vision goggles to continue fighting the fire into the night.
