Fragments is a meditative journey that explores ideas of rest, solitude, and decay. After trying to piece together a history of these places, I sought instead to establish a pattern of neglect. The depiction of assisted living residences and nursing homes are not intended to be viewed as mere comparisons with death but instead serve as a dialogue between the places in neglect and the people in charge. The representations of personal belongings act as evidence of life, while remnants of stone foundations and interiors remind us of the fragile history we have with these places.

Photography’s role as a tool for the preservationists will almost certainly join in this pattern of degeneration.
